The Countryman Pub

The Countryman pub with carvery on Sundays. Located in Bolam village near West Auckland.

For a decent, straightforward sort of hotel style Sunday lunch that is good value.

A backwater village, Bolam is a very quite gathering of nice cottages and houses. It's horse country so you see will lots of riders on a hack. The pub is very popular with residents from nearby towns of Bishop Auckland and West Auckland just a few miles away.

The Sunday lunch carvery is available in sizes; kids, small, medium and large.  Beef, pork or turkey was on the carvery table when we visited.

We were served quickly and in a friendly manner by a busy team of young servers. The bar service was matter of fact but not unfriendly. The fellow diners were relaxed and looked like they knew their way round this large pub with big dining room at the back, regulars I think.

It's cheap too. Kids £3.95 and mediums just £7.95. We saw some professional food stacker's and tried to compete but we couldn't eat all anyway. Didn't need the mashed potato! Ate all the beef.

Nice children's play area to the rear which backed onto a holiday caravan park.

This place is good for a hang over cure cheap no fuss Sunday lunch.

FUNNY COMMENT: FUNNY: load your plate up if you think your man enough.

FINAL WORD: FINAL WORD: Cheap, value, basic Sunday lunch.
