The Cricketers Arms

Rob and Vanessa are the landlords at The Cricketers Arms in Barnard Castle. Galgate is the road that drops down into the centre coming from the east, from Darlington on the A67. It's in the right.

There are plenty of pubs in Barnard Castle, mostly all pretty much the same, usually a little tired, basic but proper market town pub you would expect to find in this part of the country. The nice thing here is the relaxed friendly atmosphere the landlords create. Rob always has a nice ‘hello’, a few jokes and he really enjoys looking after his customers. Rob will chat to everyone about anything and he is genuine with it. Vanessa is a delight, always chatty and can cook really good homemade traditional food. It’s so nice not to find a 'clique' you may find in a small community like Barnard Castle. The regulars are happy to welcome you in too.

The beer is well kept; Rob knows what he is doing looking after the beer. I’ve been half a dozen times since Rob and Vanessa took over and it’s always been consistent.

You will struggle to get a seat round the bar as it’s usually taken by the regulars. Sky sports at the back with two screens are used when games are on in 3D.  We liked it sat in the front window next to the fire though with a pint and a pack of crisps. Later, on an evening it can get a little rowdy, well it’s a pub. We were comfortable early evening with our children and there is a quite eating area too ideal for families on holiday in the area.

FUNNY COMMENT: Funny Comment: Robs jokes are not always brilliant - but we love him anyway.

FINAL WORD: Final Word: Good standard pub atmosphere. Country market town traditional pub - worth calling in.
